A Mermaid's Song

I've written before about how our cat, Molly, has finally come off her throne by letting Ethan pet her. In fact, over the past couple of months, Ethan has made a lot of progress, to the point where she almost acts like a dog by rolling around on the floor while Ethan rubs her belly.

Terry and I were amazed, and a little grateful, by Molly's change of heart. Maybe we won't be guilted into getting a dog after all. Molly is finally earning her keep by providing some actual comfort to her owners.

And it's about time! This cat has it so good. She spends more time sleeping in our comfy bed than I do. And if she's not sleeping, you can usually find her sunning herself in the back yard. Or warming herself atop the water heater in the basement. Or curled up under the bed when she needs to be ALONE.

I really don't think Molly has anything to complain about, but don't tell her I said that. In her mind, there's one thing she's being unfairly denied--fresh, running water.

Molly isn't content drinking from her water bowl. Every time I go in my bathroom, she leaps onto the sink and meows maniacally at me, "Turn on the faucet now!!" I tell her no, I'm not wasting gallons of water when she has a perfectly good water bowl in the basement. "Meow," she whines, and hops back onto the bed.

I should have warned Ethan about Molly's lust for running water. Then I wouldn't have stumbled upon this:

"Ethan," I ask, "did you turn the water on for Molly?"

"Yeah," he said. "She kept running into the bathroom, and then jumped on the sink. She wanted me to do this."

It's the price us cat owners pay for love.

Ain't that the truth.....Eli can always be found curled up in our bed....he really loves it when it's not made, which rarely happens.

I don't know how we did it, but we finally broke them of drinking from the faucet....I was sick of finding cat hairs on my kitchen sink!

I've never really been a cat person until I got these little guys.....we spoil them!

I've had some odd cats, but I've never had one that demanded running water!

Found you via GBG.

Lol, cats!
We had a dog that thought it was a cat, in that he expected to be waited on and had a superior attitude.

That's so funny! I would much rather drink from a water fountain than a bowl of water, so I guess I can understand it!

Cats are so very silly like that. Mine drink out of a glass of water by the bathroom sink. Yes, the one I use to rinse when I brush my teeth. So far, I've not caught any cat diseases. What we do for love...

How sweet that Molly is softening up and taking affection. Ethan must be thrilled. Our neighbor's cat comes to visit us almost daily... and it often makes the girls' day.

I love it! I had a cat who used to do that! My current cat prefers to find water left in cups.

Too funny!
I'm allergic to cats, but that didn't stop my parents from having one as a pet when I was little! Now i'm more of a dog person ;)

Our now deceased cat used to drink out of the sink like this. She also used to climb up the front door and peer in the window when she wanted in. She scared more than her share of babysitters, who would look up and see green eyes glowing in the window. Our neighbors referred to her as the kitty doorknocker.

It's kind of pricey ($40.00) but less expensive than running water!

That's really funny. I am going to go home and see what my pumpernickel does when i turn on the faucet.
