I didn’t think it was possible, but I have found a medical procedure that is as uncomfortable as getting a PAP smear: having your neck adjusted by a chiropractor.
It’s not uncomfortable in the backless gown/stirrups/flood light kind of way that makes up a gynecologist visit. At least when you see a chiropractor, you stay fully dressed.
Though I’ve been seeing a chiropractor weekly for the past two months, I’m still not mentally prepared when he tells me to lie on my back and puts one of his hands under my neck.
“Relax,” he keeps telling me.
I’d love to, but it’s hard when you're holding my head at an angle that makes me think you're…. going …. to …. break …. my …. neck!!
Crracckk.
Oh. Actually, you made me feel a lot better. Thanks.

Oh my - I don't think I could have any of my bones cracked - but I bet it does feel good when it's over.
I know exactly what you mean - that scares me, too. The mid-back crack where all your breath shoots out of you? Same deal. Feels great when it's over, but I'm never sure if the angst before is worth it.
My old chiropractor used this neat little stim-gun thing and I barely felt it but it worked. She did do the crack thing on my lower back which made me nervous.
The only chiro I ever trusted moved to Sweden 9 years ago, and boy do I miss him. I won't let anyone other than him potentially break my neck. But I do lvoe the feeling after he does it.
I LOVED my chiropractor. She was great. Unfortunately, she got married and moved away. Now I have no one. SWMBO doesn't do chiropractic stuff, like I do for her. Besides - I don't know that I want to turn over that much control to her.
I know just what you mean! But it is worth it :)
Oh I hate those! I had osteopathic corrections for years after a car accident I was in. After the first one, I seriously thought my head had exploded. The doctor called me at home the next day to see how I was doing. Amazingly, I felt...normal.
I've never been to a chiropractor, but that would scare me too. It's all in the anticipation of it too, just like those eye tests for glaucoma when they blow in your eye.
I've gone for years, and I still scream when it's a big crack. Scares crap outta people in the waiting room. LOL!
No kidding... very funny.
I need an adjustment!
Yikes! That is nerve wracking!
I remember having this done 1 time as a kid and I hated it so much I refuse to go to a chiropractor.
While i was pregnant with my first baby the doctor did adjust me and I was so scared but he did not do the back so it wasn't as bad and it did make the pain go away.
That's crazy, I started going to a Chrio just two weeks ago to see if he could help with my pain.
The very reason why I haven't been to one was the whole neck cracking thing. Since my surgery that freaks me the hell out. And guess what he did.....CRACK! I actually screamed out loud :o)
I have never been to one either but i think i may have to and it creeps me out. Shivers down the spine type creepy....If i need a name i know who to ask
